I'm Still Here

I'm still here peeps. Sorry I haven't been blogging. Postpartum has been hard this time. The first three weeks were fabulous when my doula was here regularly, and she's actually started coming back again because I've been struggling with taking care of myself. There are lots of days I don't eat, shower, drink water, whatever. We are now dealing with thrush and sore nipples. Not fun!

The babe is so sweet. I love her so much. It is hard when you're a total perfectionist though to let others do things. For example, when the babe cries, I give other people approximately 30 seconds to try and calm her before I take her back and step in. This means I'm the one doing all the baby holding and soothing. I need to let others learn their way in calming her, but it's so hard!

She sleeps well sometimes and other times she's restless all night. I haven't pegged what's causing it yet... if anything is causing it.

And I got a call yesterday from another midwife in the state who is trying to drag me into some drama that rightly belongs to her. No thanks. Go sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here.

I am glad I let Faerylady take over the birth that's due to happen any day now. There's NO WAY I could give a mom my full attention at this point. Prenatals and stuff is totally fine, but to go to a birth? Not right now.

My brother and sister in law came down to see the baby and gave her her new nickname. My sister in law picked her up and said, "She's so light, like a cotton ball!" So, baby girl will now be Cotton Ball.

My mom was able to come and see Cotton ball when she was only 5 days old. I'm so glad because the reason my mom was in the hospital right before the birth was that she has hepatic encephalopathy. The bottom line is that she is going to the University of Michigan next week to be evaluated for a liver transplant. So she can't travel anymore and will be missing PreacherMan's graduation and Cotton Ball's baptism on May 20th. Her doctor told her without the transplant, she maybe has a year at the outside, maybe as little as a month. This is not good news for me.

And, I never mentioned it before, hoping so desperately that it would be found, but Blondie has lost my wedding ring. I took it off at about 7 months of pregnancy because my fingers were swelling. I put it on a crystal ring dish in the bathroom. It later disappeared. We tore apart the house looking for it, but, it still has not turned up. PreacherMan has said that he will buy me a special ring at the Rennaisance Festival this year. We have been going to RenFaires every year since we were married. We usually go in costume. So that would be a ring with meaning. It still won't be MY ring though.

So, that's the update for now. I hope to post more again when I start being able to drag my sorry butt around and get something meaningful accomplished. I'm also working on a short birth montage/video that I will be hopefully sharing.

I am so glad you are back to blogging =) It's a great way to "drop off" thoughts and feelings. Keep that water and food in your radius. No one feels good on an empty dehydrated stomach.

Welcome back! I've been checking often to see how you were doing. I'm glad to know you are resting (Or trying to!) and enjoying your Cotton Ball. :)
XOXO

I am so sorry you lost your wedding ring! At a time when all you want is to feel like 'yourself' again, that must be especially hard. I hope you find something fabulous at the RenFair, and that it can mark an amazing new phase of your life. :)
